HVFCo: Two MVAs & Mutual Aid Last Weekend

By Olivia Drake, HVFCo Public Information Officer.

Haddam Volunteer Fire Company responded to two motor vehicle accidents over the weekend.

At 11:45 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2018, Haddam Volunteer Fire Company and the Connecticut State Police were dispatched to Higganum Center at the intersection of Saybrook Road (Route 154) and Killingworth Road (Route 81).

A driver, heading northbound on Killingworth Road, failed to stop at the intersection and crashed an unregistered vehicle into the Candlewood Brook bridge. A passenger was evaluated on scene and refused additional medical treatment. The driver of the vehicle was taken to Middlesex Hospital via Haddam Volunteer Ambulance Service (HVAS) with minor injuries.

HVFC closed the intersection and rerouted traffic during the incident.

At 12:05 a.m. on Sunday, June 17, 2018, HVFC responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 9 South between exits 8 and 9. The vehicle’s operator swerved off the left side of the road and became entangled a wire guard rail. She struck 26 metal posts before coming to a complete stop. The driver was evaluated on scene by HVAS and refused additional medical treatment.

HVFC closed both lanes of traffic during the incident, but allowed traffic to pass on the right-side shoulder.

HVFC also responded mutual aid to a drowning incident at Millers Pond State State on June 16, 2018 and to a structure fire in Middletown on June 17, 2018.
