Eversource Helps Provide Opportunity for Young Golfers to Play with the Pros
9-year-old Berlin boy selected for Travelers Championship event

BERLIN, Conn. (June 18, 2018) – He’s only 9 years old and already a golf fanatic. Brennan Meyers first started swinging the clubs four years ago. When he’s not on the course, he’s practicing on the putting green in his backyard, or watching golf on TV. The Berlin boy’s skill and determination have led him to victory in several golf competitions and even earned him a spot in the 2018 U.S. Kids World Championship this summer in North Carolina. But before heading south for that tournament, the soon-to-be Griswold Elementary School fourth grader will be hitting the links Tuesday with some of golf’s elite players at the Travelers Championship. Brennan is one of the youngest of the 40 golfers selected to participate in this year’s Eversource PGA TOUR Player Experience for Junior Golfers at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell.

“It’s like a dream! I’m so excited to get some tips from the pros,” said Brennan. “It’s unbelievable that I get to play with some of the best players in the world, at the greatest golf tournament of the year!”

Brennan was selected for the Player Experience based on a personal essay about his golf experience and how he could benefit from the opportunity to participate. In addition to playing with some of the pros, Brennan and the other chosen participants will attend private golf clinics, a Q-and-A session with the elite players, and a dinner reception.

“This is an excellent opportunity for these young golfers. They are learning and developing lifelong skills through the game of golf from some of the games’ best,” said Eversource President of Corporate Citizenship Rod Powell. “We’re committed to serving the neighborhoods where we work and live and that includes supporting the health and well-being of the young people in our communities, which is why we are so proud to sponsor the Player Experience.”

The partnership between Eversource, the Travelers Championship, The First Tee of Connecticut and the Connecticut Section PGA Junior Golf Association focuses on bringing the game to young people, improving player development, increasing accessibility to the game, and retaining golfers for the future of the sport.

The Travelers Championship has generated more than $38 million for charity since 1952 and donates 100 percent of net proceeds to those organizations.  Last year alone, the Travelers Championship generated more than $1.7 million for more than 165 charities throughout the New England region.
