HVFCo: SCBA Drill March 2018

Submitted by Olivia Drake, HVFCo.

On March 12, 2018, HVFC hosted a SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus) drill inside Station 1. Members with Interior Firefighter classifications must participate in a SCBA-proficiency drill four times a year. Members wore full gear and, while on air, tackled multiple obstacles including low-profile and entanglement boxes. Each obstacle is designed to mimic a scenario that a firefighter could encounter inside a structure during a fire.

“In this drill, we’re not only refreshing our basic SCBA skills, but we’re building muscle memory and proficiency in them,” said Assistant Chief Dan Sullivan. “The training obstacles aren’t easy, so when a firefighter completes the course, it instills confidence in their abilities.”
