Dollar Store in Tylerville?

Editorial Staff.

A public hearing was scheduled for January 4, 2018 to engage in a building moratorium for properties that are zoned commercial that are also located in the Gateway Conservation District. The moratorium is intended for new development in excess of 1,000 square feet and is not intended to affect small additions, reuse of existing commercial space or fit outs of existing tenant space. That Planning & Zoning Commission hearing was canceled due to the snow storm, and has been rescheduled for Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the Town Hall.

On December 13, 2017, we reported that the Shailer Banning house at 85 Bridge Road in Tylerville was demolished on December 11. The town has received an application for a 9,100 square foot building on that site. There has been a lot of chatter on social media about the plans for that site, in particular a possible Dollar General store. “The application did not state it was Dollar General,” said Liz Glidden, Haddam’s Town Planner, “but it fits the profile.” The hearing for that application will be scheduled at the January 18 meeting mentioned above, most likely for February 15, 2018.

Questions may be directed to Liz Glidden, Town Planner at 860-345-8531 x 219.
