Local Dancers Return from World Tap Dance Championship in Germany

By Kathy Brown.

In September, we told you about three dancers from our area who were traveling to Germany in November to compete on Team USA in the IDO World Tap Dance Championships (original article HERE). Sarah Petrie, age 12, from Higganum. Sarah, Riley Bauer (age 15, from Deep River) and Ashley Inglis (age 12, from Clinton) are all dancers from Back Stage Dance Center’s competitive team in Killingworth. They performed the routine, “Geishas,” which placed them 7th out of 16 routines at the championships. Unfortunately, only 1st through 6th place went on to the finals. “It was an amazing experience and many of the routines performed by our team did very well,” Corey Petrie, Sarah’s mother, said. “Overall, our USA Team earned one Gold medal, two Silver medals, and four Bronze medals in the various categories we were entered into.”

Riley Bauer’s Junior Small Group, “Consequence of Sound,” earning a Silver Medal. Riley is from Ivoryton, CT.

The Petries were in Germany for a week for the competition. Along with dancing, they visited Albrechtsburg Castle in Meissen which is Germany’s oldest castle, built in 1471, as well as several Christmas markets. “Sarah met other tap dancers from all over the world and had the experience of a lifetime!” said Mrs. Petrie.
