Haddam Social Services: November 2017 Monthly Report

Submitted by Jessica A. Condil, Haddam Social Service Coordinator.

The season of giving has official begun here at Haddam Social Services.

We have been blessed with many monetary donations from our local Churches, local organizations and fine residents of the community. Lots of wonderful food donations have been arriving to fill our beautiful Holiday baskets and an additional 14 Holiday baskets donated from our local Congregational Church. A huge thank you to both our markets in town. Higganum and Tylerville Market have donated so much to help feed our community this Thanksgiving.

The Emergency Food Bank has serviced a total of 30 Adults / 17 Children and distributed 35 Thanksgiving Baskets to the community.

The HK Backpack Program and Social Services together in a joint effort have been able to reach and serve our community families with young children and keep them informed of local services available to them.

As the weather gets colder the need for Emergency Fuel has increased tremendously. The Haddam Emergency Fuel Bank has serviced 11 families in total for the month of November 2017. (October was 5 families)

  •  6 Oil
  • 3 Propane
  • 2 Electric

The Emergency Clothing Bank has served a total of 9 children and 7 adults for November.

The Women’s Empowerment Group has had their second meeting. The meeting was focused on educational resources for single moms and working moms in Middlesex County.

The Social Service Department has added an Emergency 72-Hr Check List Handout. This form can be picked up at Haddam Social Services during office hours and will be distributed in Christmas baskets as well.
