HVFCo: Three Calls 11/28/17

Submitted by Olivia Drake, HVFCo Public Information Officer.

Haddam Volunteer Fire Company responded to three calls for emergency services on Nov. 28, 2017 including a motor vehicle accident, a structure fire at Kleen Energy Services in Middletown, and an outside smoke investigation.

At 10:05 p.m., HVFC was dispatched to Hidden Lake Road to assist a driver who had lost control of his vehicle, swerved up an embankment and struck a tree and a utility pole on the driver’s side. The patient was transported via Haddam Volunteer Ambulance to Middlesex Hospital with minor injuries.

At 11:10 p.m., HVFC’s Tanker 2-13 was requested as mutual aid to a structure fire at Kleen Energy Systems on River Road in Middletown. A small diesel-fuel fire started in the area of a turbine and spread to nearby insulation. Firefighters from Middletown South District, Middletown, Haddam, Durham, Middlefield and Westfield responded to the scene. Crews extinguished the fire with dry chemical and removed the insulation. HVFC also provided station coverage at Middletown South District’s station during the incident. Crews were on scene for about three hours.

At 11:45 p.m., crews were dispatched to the area of Saybrook Road and Bridge Road for an outside smoke investigation. Firefighters searched Route 154 to the Chester Line and Bridge Street to the East Haddam line and nothing was found. The incident was cleared as a good-intent call (likely fog).
