HVFCo: Four MVAs in Three Days

Haddam Volunteer Fire Company responded to two motor vehicle accidents on Oct. 8, 2017. At 4:50, crews were dispatched to an accident on Killingworth Road near Pokorny Road. The driver of the vehicle was evaluated on scene by Haddam Volunteer Ambulance Service personnel. HVFC shut down the road and provided traffic control while the vehicle was removed.

Motor Vehicle Accident 10/8/17

At 8:30 p.m., HVFC was dispatched to Parker Hill Road (pictured), where a driver had lost control of his vehicle, slid off the road and crashed into a tree. The driver self extricated and was evaluated on scene by HVAS. The driver refused additional medical treatment.

Both scenes were turned over to Connecticut State Police without out further incident.

Motor Vehicle Accident 10/9/17

At 10:40 p.m. on Oct. 9, 2017, Connecticut State Police requested assistance at a motor vehicle accident on Killingworth Road near Ivy Road and Squabble Hollow Lane. A driver, heading northbound on Killingworth Road, had lost control of her vehicle and struck a utility pole with her rear driver’s side door. Airbags deployed and the driver was able to self-extricate without injuries. Crews blocked the road and re-routed traffic until Eversource deemed the area safe.

Vehicle Fire 10/10/17

At 6:20 a.m. this morning [October 10, 2017], Haddam Fire responded to Route 9S for a reported vehicle fire. Prior to firefighters arriving, the CSP confirmed that the fire was out. The driver of the commercial vehicle carried a fire extinguisher in his truck and used the equipment to extinguish flames and burning rubber near the passenger’s side front tire. Crews blocked one lane of Route 9 during the incident.
