Things are Getting a Little Fresh: Center Changes in Progress

As many of you are aware, there are some changes underway at the Senior Center this summer. Yes, things are getting a little fresh down here, in a good way! Thanks to the folks at Eversource, the Center will soon have a fresh new look with the completion of the interior painting project, now scheduled for July 18, 2017. If you’ve driven by lately or have stopped in, you may have also noticed a fresh new coat of paint on the outside. And that’s not it . . . we have some fresh new faces at the Center, mine being one of them. I am happy to announce that as of June 26, 2017, I have been awarded the position of Senior Center Director. I am very excited to be joining you all in the Center and am looking forward to serving you in this role. For those of you who don’t frequent the Center regularly, I invite you to stop by and say hello.

Another fresh new face you may see is that of Jessica Condil. Jessica has been appointed as the Social Services Coordinator, and will be managing such programs as the Food Bank and Fuel Bank. Her office will be located in the Annex Building (Haddam Public Health), 11 Jail Hill Road, Haddam. Jessica will be working closely with Eleanor Farrell, Municipal Agent for the Elderly, as well as Youth & Family Services of HK, and us here in the Senior Center. If you see Jessica, make sure to introduce yourselves!

Name the Newsletter Contest

We are re-designing our newsletter and are looking for your input. Over the next few weeks we will be holding a contest to name our newsletter. You may submit your suggestions one of two ways — either stop by the Center for an entry form or email your idea (include your name, address, and phone number) to seniors@haddam.org. Entries should be received by August 11, 2017. All name suggestions will then be voted on by our Seniors, as well as the Senior Center Staff and the First Selectwoman’s Office. The voting will take place the week of August 14-18. The winning submission will be revealed in the fall newsletter, with the winner receiving not only recognition, but a $25 Visa Gift Card.

This contest is open to all residents of Haddam and Higganum. There are no limitations to the amount of name ideas one person may submit. In the event that duplicated names are submitted, the person who submitted the name first will be the one entered into the contest. If the newsletter name chosen has been submitted by an employee of the Town of Haddam, the prize amount will be donated to the Senior Center Nutrition Program. A few simple guidelines: be creative and original; keep name suggestions short (no more than 3-4 words); and remember that the name will be representative of our senior center community. We can’t wait to see what you all come up with, so get thinking!
