HVFCo & Four Other Fire Departments Responded to Killingworth Structure Fire 3/22/17

By Olivia Drake.

Five volunteer fire departments responded to a structure fire on Parker Hill Road in Killingworth at 5:40 p.m. March 22, 2917. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered smoke and small flames coming from the basement of a two-story wood-sided home.

Firefighters from Killingworth, Chester, Deep River, Haddam and Madison worked to extinguish the fire, which caused damage to the front of the home. Firefighters removed two shrubs and cut a 3- by-5-foot hole in the front of the house to access the burning areas. They also accessed and extinguished the fire from the home’s basement.

Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control in less than 20 minutes. The homeowners immediately left the home after calling 911. Two dogs and two cats also survived the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
