HVFCo: Rollovers

Submitted by Olivia Drake.

Haddam Volunteer Fire Company responded to a one-car rollover at 1:45 a.m. February 18, 2017 on Saybrook Road near the Old Turnpike Road intersection ( the police report can be found here). A driver heading northbound on Saybrook Road lost control of his vehicle, struck a curb and flipped his vehicle on its driver’s side. The vehicle slid on snow until crashing into an ornamental tree. Upon arrival, firefighters found the vehicle unoccupied and the driver was not on the scene. Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera in wooded areas near the accident, but the driver was not found. Connecticut State Police later found the driver, who was walking northbound on Saybrook Road.

This is the second rollover Haddam Fire has responded to recently. At 6:20 p.m. on Feb. 13, crews were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Killingworth Road and Ivy Road in Higganum. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered one vehicle on its roof. The single occupant of the vehicle had self-extricated and was evaluated on scene by Haddam Volunteer Ambulance. The driver refused additional medical treatment. New Image Auto removed vehicle and Haddam Fire contained leaking vehicle fluids using dirt, absorbent pads and clay sweep.
