Trunk or Treat?

By K. Brown.

dsc05718Last night, October 29, 2016, the Haddam Economic Development Commission put on a free event at the Community Center in Higganum Center: Grim’s Haunted House and Trunk or Treat. Since I had never attended a Trunk or Treat, I thought people just had a bucket of candy in their trunk. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Not only were their trunks decorated, but most of the people handing out candy were also in costume, and some of them had even developed personas and entertainment when kids visited their “trunk.” One woman was a witch and was offering “potions” and “spells” as well as candy.trunk or treat

There was face painting and crafts, and refreshments, as well as a haunted house within the community center, complete with spooky fog and characters (zombies and witches) who popped out, and sometimes followed you. Many children came in costume, eager to check out both the Trunks and the haunted house.

haunted-truckCindy MacNeil-Sola, head of the Haddam EDC, said, “A huge thank you to Chuck Cook for the great Haunted House last night. Trunk or Treat was a lot of fun and the kids had a blast! We’ll do it again next year!”
