Grim’s Haunted House Party & Trunk or Treat

By Kathy Brown.

trunk or treatThe Haddam Economic Development Commission is putting on a free event: “Grim’s Haunted House and Trunk or Treat” on Saturday, October 29, 2016, 6 – 8 pm in Higganum Center. According to Cindy MacNeil-Sola, there will be activities for smaller children (age 1-6) in part of the garage, and older children will be in the Community Center room which will be split into two haunted rooms, where kids will receive candy in each room. Chuck Cook is donating/setting up the decorations. There will be food booths by local organizations.

If any community businesses would like to donate drinks and/or snacks for the Haunted House, please contact Liz Glidden at or Cindy MacNeil-Sola at 860-301-9683 or

There will also be a Trunk or Treat, where residents are encouraged to park, and provide candy (or non-edible treats like pencils or spider rings or glow sticks, especially good for children with allergies) to give out to children in costume. Please contact Ms. MacNeil-Sola if you’re interested in participating in the Trunk or Treat so that they know how many to plan for. Right now, they’re thinking of using the parking lot at the Community Center, across the bridge, and up along Route 81/Killingworth Road up to the Pharmacy, so families can use the sidewalk safely. Candlewood Hill Road may be closed for the two hours of the event.

There may be opportunity for community service hours for high school students, so if you are interested, please contact Ms. MacNeil-Sola. Adults are welcome to volunteer as well! This is the Facebook page for the event.

According to Ms. MacNeil-Sola, “It’s a way of bringing the community together and having a great safe time with good memories for the kids.” She and the Haddam EDC hopes it becomes a yearly event.
