HVFCo Auxiliary: 50th Anniversary Calendar

HVFC calendar cover-page-0The Haddam Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary was organized in September 1966 to support the Haddam Volunteer Fire Department by providing refreshments during major fires, raising funds to purchase firefighting items, and to help in other ways. The first meeting of the Haddam Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary was held on October 24, 1966 where they planned a fundraiser to seed its start-up fund. That fundraiser was to be a calendar, with pictures of fire equipment, taken by John Duda, a volunteer fireman at the time. Three local businesses had already donated enough in ad purchases to cover the cost of the project: Camp’s, 15 Maples, and Jackson Chevrolet. An added feature would be to include dates of birthdays, anniversaries, and meetings. The dates would be sold for 25 cents each, but had to be sold the following week to be included in the printing. When printed, the calendars would sell for $1 each. If anyone saved one of those original calendars, the HVFCo would love to see it!

To celebrate 50 years, the present HVFCo Auxiliary has made another calendar. These commemorative 16-month calendars, will start with September 2016 and end December 2017. They will feature pictures of members and events going back to the early ’70s. These calendars will sell for $15 each, and the proceeds will help support their Anniversary Brunch which will be taking place on October 2, 2016. The calendars are available now and can be purchased from any Auxiliary member or from the Town Clerk’s office. For more information, call Elaine at 860-345-7755
