Major Structure Fire Closes Part of Route 81

A major structure fire has closed part of Route 81 near High Street in Higganum Monday morning, November 30, 2015. Multiple towns sent their fire trucks to converge on the scene in the early hours of the morning, according to this Middletown Press article. At this time, school buses have been advised to detour the area and radio stations are reporting it along with their highway traffic updates. According to the Middletown Press article, it is unknown whether there was anyone in the house at the time of the fire.

According to this WFSB article, the fire broke out around 4:30 am, and no injuries have been reported.

Editor’s Note 1: one person, a male, was in the house at the time of the fire.  He was treated for smoke inhalation and released. Rt 81 is open at this time (10 AM, 11/30).

The house was owned by Tom Przybylowicz. His step-daughter, Jenna, started this GoFundMe page, to raise funds to help Tom out during this time.

Teri Everett is collecting clothes and giftcards for Tom, which can be dropped off at Teri’s Package Store in Higganum Center. His sizes are: Pants: waist 36, length 30. Shoes size 11.
