Letter to the Editor: A New Year’s Wish

The views stated here are those of the individual contributor and do not necessarily reflect those of the staff of HaddamNow.com.

I suggest we spend the month of  December without any political rhetoric! Instead let us respect each other and find ways that we can work together to strengthen and enhance this wonderful community. Perhaps this just might be our New Year’s wish for 2016.

It would be wonderful to have a peaceful town of Haddam. That is most definitely something the Republican machine should have thought about before they started the negative campaigning that took place in October and early Nov. To just think you can flip a switch and think all is well and everyone is content is absurd.

Thanks Cherry, Many of us feel the same way. My husband and I were just remembering the wonderful town we move to 40 years ago. I remember disagreeing with a couple of First Selectmen and as they say “getting in their face”. And I always remembering walking away with some satisfaction, meeting in the middle. But, Sue, you seem to be seeing the last 2 years only from your eyes and not those of others in Town who got no middle from the previous administration. A town is not one! We are many and the people elected should always consider the many. We have had two years of the exact opposite. I want the old town back! Do you remember Larry Conti? He was a Democrat! He cared about all of us. Tony Bondi yes another Democrat who cared enough about his fellow town employees to give them a break called “Pie Day”. Great guys who probably stepped on toes, but always were truly citizens of the Town of Haddam. And both knew when you were fortunate to be elected by a majority, you became the representative for all! Once again, I want the old town back! It has truly been lost for the last two years…….Please let the New Year bring us all the peace and tranquility that makes us healthy…..

Wendy, there were only 25 people who changed the outcome of the election. I do not think I am alone in my feelings. I am definitely willing to give Ms. Milardo her due respect and hopefully she can fulfill all of her campaign promises. I wrote my comment not about Liz, but about the way she was elected…it was an embarrassment in my opinion. We all are entitled to our opinion here .
