HK Rec Dept: Magic, Lego & More

Acting Classes by Performing Arts Programs, Inc.

The Haddam-Killingworth Recreation Department is offering Acting Classes for children grades K – 4. This program will be held on Tuesdays, October 6 – November 24 (11/3)  at  Killingworth Elementary School and on Thursdays, October 8 – December 3 (No 10/29, 11/26)  from 3:30 – 4:15 pm and at Haddam Elementary School gym. The fee is $113 (non-residents add $10). This multi-faceted program includes theatre games, concentration exercises, creative movement, imagination play, sense work, and basic stage skills. LEGOtm Engineering Fundamentals

The Haddam-Killingworth Recreation Department is offering Play-Well LEGOTM Engineering Fundamentals for students in grades K – 4. The class will be offered on Mondays, October 5 – November 30th  (No 10/12) at Burr Elementary School Library from 3:30 – 5:00 pm. The fee is $145 (non-residents add $10).

Kid’s imaginations will run wild with over 100,000 pieces of LEGOtm.  Build engineer-designed projects such as boats bridges, mazes and motorized cars as well as use special pieces to create their own uique designs. Explore endless creative possibilities of the LEGO building system with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instuctor. New challenges will be available for repeat LEGO engineers.

Young Chefs of HK

The HK Recreation Department is offering some fun cooking classes this fall. Young Chefs is for boys and girls in grades 1 – 5.  It meets from 4:15 – 5:45 pm at the HKHS B-112. The fee is $26 each class (non-residents add $5).  It is a unique culinary experience which will offer cooking classes to children in a safe environment that will encourage discovery and creativity. Each visit will be a new experience with fresh monthly themes and exciting new programs. Students sharpen their skills by employing the mantra, “Mise en Place” which, in the cooking world, translates into “Everything in its place.” Young chefs will learn basics in kitchen safety, proper food handling, food preparation, cooking and baking techniques, presentation, and so much more! At the end of each workshop the young chef will leave with a packet of info on how to recreate what we made in class and tasty treats for their family to try.

Workshops include:
October 7th: Learn how to make tasty pumpkin chocolate chip muffins and yummy Halloween candy  corn popcorn balls.

Wizard’s School of Magic

The Haddam-Killingworth Recreation Department is offering a Magic Workshop for boys and girls ages 5 – 12 on Wednesday, October 7th at Haddam Elementary School Library, Thursday October 22 at Burr Elementary School Library, and Wednesday December 2nd at Killingworth Elementary School from 3:30 – 4:30 PM. The fee is $22 each. Non-Residents please add $5. Children will have fun learning basic introductory magic while building self-confidence and dexterity. Five different tricks will be taught in each session. Each child will receive a magic kit which includes 5 tricks, an instruction sheet describing each trick, and a magic wand. Kids will also be entertained by Tom O’Brien’s own act. Tom is a master at his craft and is a wonderful and entertaining teacher as well.  New tricks this session!
