Rt 9 Fatality & Rt 81 Accident within 2 Hours

At 6:20 a.m. Aug. 28, Haddam Fire and Chester Hose Company were called to the scene of a fatal tractor-trailer accident on Route 9N. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which was towing an empty trailer, and drove off the road and down the embankment. The northbound side of Route 9 was shut down between exits 8 and 9 while LifeStar crews arrived. The driver was pronounced dead on scene.

Firefighters and crews from the Department of Transportation worked to remove trees brush to extricate the driver. Route 9 reopened around 9:40 a.m.

Actually, the Haddam Volunteer Fire Company responded to two motor vehicle accidents this morning, Aug. 28.

Rt9-5The second accident occurred at the intersection of Route 81 and the Route 9S onramp at 8:20 a.m. A vehicle heading southbound on Route 81 struck a vehicle exiting Route 9. One driver was transported to Middlesex Hospital via Haddam Ambulance Service. The other driver was evaluated on scene and refused medical treatment. One lane of Route 81 was closed for about an hour.
