HVFCo Responds to Propane Leak

propane leak 1On June 28, 2015 members of Haddam Volunteer Fire Company responded to a hazardous materials call at a gas station on Route 81 in Higganum. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a 500 pound propane tank was leaking from the pressure gauge, causing odor in the area. Haddam Fire shut off the electricity to the tank, closed the valves to stop the leak, bled the unit’s lines, and dispersed the propane vapor by using a line from Engine 3-13. Firefighters also metered areas around the leak, checking for any built up “pockets” of propane. Connecticut Propane & Petroleum of Marlborough capped the tank.propane leak 2
