Mystery Diner: Creative Cooking/New Orleans

We popped into Creative Cooking/ New Orleans restaurant for lunch the other day. We were the only ones in there. The bartender served us and obviously the service was great.

Let me tell you a little about the Chef/owner. Sunil Malhotra had his formal training in Europe with major assignments at the Royal Palace, London, England, as well as director of cuisine on “illustrious Cruise Ships.” The food Creative Cooking/New Orleans offers has its roots in many styles: Creole, French, Spanish, American Indian, African and American. I am not a huge fan of exceedingly hot/spicy foods and happily this food was not overly hot, but had amazing spice combos that danced on your tongue. We loved it.

I had one of the house specialties, The Big Ass Special (not to be confused with, The Huge Ass Special). The TBA Special is a Blackened Chicken Po’Boy with a cup of Chicken Gumbo, choice of 12 oz Bud or Bud Light or Hurricane. $14.50 As it was mid day, I had a ginger ale.  The meal was scrumptious. The entire meal. The soup was so good, I took a pint to go.
My cohort had the Fried Oyster Po’Boy: fried oysters on a Po’Boy with chipotle aioli, lettuce and tomato. $16.00 Also paired with ginger ale.

The luncheon menu offers Salads, Sandwiches, Burgers, Po’Boys and House Specials. Not inexpensive, but for us it was our major meal of the day and it was great. Definitely worth a trip to the shoreline – we plan to go back often and for dinner.
