HKHS vs. Valley Regional 11/25/14

 Submitted by Barth Keck.

Valley Regional/Lyme-Old Lyme 49, HKHS 7 (at Deep River, CT)

Valley broke away from a stubborn Haddam-Killingworth Cougar team with four unanswered touchdowns in the third quarter of the annual Principal’s Cup game in Deep River. The game, usually played on Thanksgiving Eve, was moved up a day due to the snowy forecast for Wednesday before Turkey Day. It was Evan Smith leading the way for Valley with three scores; Andrew Tuscano scored two touchdowns for the Warriors. HKHS’s touchdown was the results of a 37-yard pass from Alex Segaline to Hunter Czaja in the second quarter to knot the score at 7-7. Valley scored two more second-quarter TDs to take a 21-7 halftime lead. The Warriors then pulled away with the explosive third quarter. HKHS ended the season at 4-7 following last year’s winless campaign, while Valley is 11-0 and continues its season into the state playoffs. Currently, Valley is the number-one seed in Class S.
