On Saturday, the H-K boys and girls Cross Country teams traveled to East Greenwich, Rhode Island to compete in the Ocean State Invitational.  This meet featured over 90 high schools from Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire.

The teams had a successful day and were led by a 5th place team finish in the Boys Varsity 1 race.  The boys scored 192 pts. to place 5th out of 41 teams in the race and over 271 runners.  Leading the way once again for the Cougars was senior captain Pat Fitzgibbons who placed 18th in a time of 17:23.  Finishing behind him were seniors Mike Rutledge 36th (17:57), Dave Baird 41st (18:05), Gavin Manzi 48th (18:14) and Randin Manzi 57th (18:28).  The girls squad also fared well as they placed 9th out of 30 teams in their race with 304 points.  First to finish for the H-K girls was junior Maddie Brandon who covered the 3.1 mile course in a time of 20:19 to place 12th our of 217 runners.  Rounding out the top 5 scores for the Cougars were juniors Annelise Walsh 59th (22:15), Erica Allen 87th (22:58),  Megan Gamache 90th (23:09) and sophomore Lizzie Early 99th (23:28)

The H-K Cross Country teams will next be in action on Tuesday at the Cougar Invitational hosted at Totoket Park in North Branford.  On Saturday, the team travels to Thetford, VT to compete in the Woods Trail Run. Photos courtesy of Sean Walsh.
