Cross Country 2014: HKHS at Shoreline Large Schools League Meet

On Tuesday, September 23, 2014 the H-K boys and girls cross country teams traveled to Cromwell High School to compete in the Shoreline Large Schools League Meet against Morgan, Valley Regional, Coginchaug, Cromwell and North Branford.  The boys squad came away with five victories on the afternoon to start their dual meet record 5-0 while the girls team went 4-1 on the day narrowly losing a tight race with Coginchaug the 11th ranked girls team in the entire state..

The boys beat Coginchaug 20-43, beat Morgan 20-43, beat North Branford 15-50, beat Valley 15-49 and beat Cromwell 21-39.  The Cougars ran as a pack at the front of the race and were led by seniors Pat Fitzgibbons, Dave Baird and Gavin Manzi who crossed the line together with a time of 17:36 for the 3.1 mile course and placed 4th-5th and 6th overall in the race.  Following the trio were seniors Randin Manzi 7th (17:42) and Rob Tischbein 9th (17:53) to round out the scoring for the boys.

The girls team lost to  Coginchaug 27-30, but easily beat Cromwell 23-36, beat North Branford 15-50, beat Morgan 15-50 and beat Valley 19-42.  H-K was led once again by junior Maddie Brandon who won the race in a time of 19:07 for the 5,000 meter course.  She was followed by a trio of freshman Kelsey D’Amico who placed 4th (20:32), Lexie Bouthillier 6th (20:39) and Grace Lindell 15th (21:24).  Finishing 5th for the girls was sophomore Lizzie Early who placed 15th (21:33).

The cross country team will next be in action on Saturday at the Ocean State Invitational in West Greenwich, Rhode Island before traveling to North Branford on Tuesday to compete in the Cougar Invitational.
