HK Recreation Dept Fall 2014 Offerings

Submitted by R. Brennan. Edited by K. Brown. The Haddam-Killingworth Recreation Department is offering the following offerings for Fall 2014:

Introduction to Baton Twirling

Baton Twirling class will be held Wednesdays, September 17 – October 15 from 6:00 – 7:00 pm at Burr School. There will be a second session November 5 – December 10 (No 11/26).  The fee is $50 (non-residents att $10) each session. The program is for boys and girls ages 6 – 12.

Group Guitar Lessons

Group Guitar lessons will be held this Fridays, September 19 – October 24 from 5:00 – 6:00pm at the HKHS Cafeteria.  The program is for children in grades 2 – 6.  The fee is $100 and includes a book. (non-residents add $10).  Students must bring their own guitar. Electric or acoustic guitars are acceptable. Charles Music School carries affordable guitars for purchase or rent.


Archery lessons will be held this fall on Wednesdays, from September 17 – October 15 from 6:30 – 7:30 pm at the HK HS Cafeteria. Class is for participants ages 8 – 17. There will be a second session from November 5 – December 10 (No 11/26). The fee is $67 each session. Non-residents can register for an additional $10.

Crossroads Driving School

A Driver’s Education program will be offered this fall. Participants must be 16 years old before the start of class. Option 1 is a Full Program that includes 30 hours of classroom as well as the safe driving and alcohol program along with 8 hours of behind-the-wheel. The fee is $500 (non-residents add $10). Option 2 is a Classroom only option, where participants can take the 30 hours of class, but no driving. Includes the Safe Driving portion. The fee is $265 (non-residents add $10). Option 3 is the Safe Driving and Drug and Alcohol Program, which is the 8 hour course that fulfills the requirement of the State of CT for license applicants who took a Home Training Program. This course is required for all drivers, including those who are over the age of 18. The fee for this course is $150.

Classes will be held at the HK HS room C-111.  The classroom dates will be held from September 23 – November 20 (No 9/25, 10/30, 11/4, 11/11 from 2:50 – 4:50 pm or 6:00 – 8:00 pm plus the Parent/Student Orientation on September 18th from 6 – 8 pm. There will be a Safe Driving Program on September 23, 30, October 2 from 2:50 – 4:50 pm or 6 – 8 pm (Plus parent/student orientation on September 18th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm). The Parent/Student Orientation is mandatory for both student and parent to attend on September 18th in the HK HS Seminar Room.

Creative Art

Creative Art classes will be held this fall. Children in grades K – 4 will explore a world of creativity through a variety of different projects from wood crafts to paper art and make fun projects. Each session will also have a day of cookie decorationg! Class will meet on Mondays from 3:30 – 4:45 pm at Killingworth Elementarry School from September 15 – October 6 as well as October 20 – November 10 and November 24 – December 15. The class will meet on Wednesdays at Burr Elementary from September 17 – October 8 as well as November 5 – December 3 (No 11/26).   There will be class at Haddam Elementary School pm Thursdays, October 2 – 23 as well as November 13 – December 11 (No 11/27).

The fee is $50 per each four-week session (non-residents add $10). Kids should bring a smock or shirt that can get messy.

Rise & Shine Yoga

Rise and Shine Yoga for Fitness will be held on Wednesdays, September 17 – October 22 from 7:30 – 8:30 am at Haddam Elementary School Gym for children in grades 1 – 4. A second session will be held from November 5 – December 10.  The fee is $65 each session (non-residents add $10).

Practical Pilates and Play

Practical Pilates and Play will be held on Wednesdays from 8:45 – 9:15 am at the Killingworth Congregational Church. Session 1 will be from September 17 – October 15.  A second session will be held from November 5 – December 10. The fee is $35 each session (non-residents add $10).  Additional siblings are $15 each.
