Charity Knitting at the Library

Charity Knitting Group

The First Tuesday of Every Month at 6:30 PM

Join your neighbors as they “Knit for Charity.” When their group formed, they had five members. Now they have 13 members and are still growing! They work through the Middlesex Hospital and have made pink scarves for breast cancer patients, chemo caps, newborn and preemie caps, finger puppets for children who have blood drawn from a finger, and serenity shawls.

They also knit for Haddam Public Health and for the VFW. They make warm scarves for those who need them and hats to be worn under helmets for our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In a letter to the Charity Knitting Group, Kathryn H. Kearns, Director of the Middlesex Hospital Volunteer Services, wrote, “The scarves, baby hats, hand puppets and shawls are just beautiful and add to a feeling of well being for our patients. The workmanship and variety of color is wonderful and much appreciated by all who have seen them. Our patients, new babies and mothers are especially thrilled when they find they are able to go home with these thoughtful gifts. …We are truly blessed to have such caring and talented people in our community.”

If you’re unable to join us on the first Tuesday of the month, stop in any other time that the Brainerd Memorial Library is open. They’ll be happy to provide you with patterns and knitting directions. They will also happily accept your donations. For more information, call them at 860-345-2204.
